Conner Weigman threw four touchdown passes in the bowl victory, and Amare Thomas returns after recording 966 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. They can challenge an Oregon State defense learning a new system. If that produces touchdowns while Atkinson struggles with pressure, Houston can build and maintain the necessary separation. Atkinson’s four-interception finale against South Dakota makes that a serious obstacle to this ticket. The assumption carrying my decision is that Oregon State’s protection and Atkinson’s decisions hold up well enough for his demonstrated passing ability to matter throughout the game. I am backing that offensive potential to keep the spread within reach, with Houston’s uneven finishing providing additional support. Houston’s unresolved eligibility rulings on Stephon Johnson and Myles Rowser could change the personnel assessment; confirmed clearance would strengthen its available receiving and secondary options and warrant reassessing my confidence.
