North Texas’s strongest route through this game fits Neal Brown’s intended running emphasis: Jahiem White’s experience in his offense and Tayven Jackson’s mobility give the Mean Green ways to sustain possessions. The roster includes 29 players with at least 20 college appearances. That experience matters in this setting, even though playing together remains a separate challenge. My judgment is that those pieces can produce enough sustained possessions and scoring to stay inside this number. Indiana’s plan to support Josh Hoover with its running game also matters. Successful rushing possessions could help Indiana control the afternoon while consuming time North Texas needs off the clock. Hoover brings substantial passing production, but his 13 interceptions in his 2025 TCU season make interrupted scoring drives a credible concern when laying 40.5. His four-touchdown, interception-free Cincinnati finale shows the sharper version that could punish this ticket. Indiana has a clear route to covering: its experienced offensive line sustains scoring drives, while its defense overwhelms a North Texas line with no returning starter and unsettled guard positions. Four of Indiana’s five projected offensive linemen have at least three years of starting experience. If that mismatch repeatedly produces quick North Texas possessions, Indiana can accumulate opportunities to extend its lead throughout the game. The assumption behind my bet is that North Texas’s blocking will function well enough for White and Jackson to sustain that possession-based approach. The unresolved fact that could change my decision is how those new blocking combinations handle Indiana’s front. Consistent disruption would undermine both North Texas’s scoring chances and its ability to consume clock. I’m taking the points because I expect its experienced offensive pieces to keep that from becoming the game’s constant pattern.
