Kent State also replaces its leading rusher and receiver, making continuity at quarterback only part of the offensive picture. The bet assumes DeShields carries enough of his passing efficiency into this tougher assignment for Kent State to produce scoring possessions. His interception total does not guarantee protection against sacks, fumbles, or stalled drives. The unresolved hinge most capable of changing my read is South Carolina’s rebuilt offensive line: whether its actual starting combination immediately delivers dependable rushing and cleaner protection. If that renovation fixes the possession-to-possession problems from last season, the favorite’s strongest route becomes substantially more convincing.
