The Michigan Wolverines enter this bowl game in complete disarray—Head Coach Sherrone Moore has been fired, leaving Interim Coach Biff Poggi to lead a team that is also relying on a true freshman quarterback, Bryce Underwood. While Underwood is talented, asking a freshman to dissect an SEC defense in a bowl game without a permanent head coach or his best pass rusher (Derrick Moore opted out) is a recipe for disaster.

The quarterback disparity here is massive. Texas starts Arch Manning, who has thrown 26 touchdowns this season compared to Michigan's meager 9 passing touchdowns as a team. Michigan is incredibly one-dimensional; they rely entirely on the run. While Texas is missing its primary running back rotation, their defense has been elite at limiting opponents' strengths. If Texas gets up by 10 points early, Michigan simply does not have the passing attack to chase the game.
