Gary's Take Oklahoma rolls into this one with real momentum after a 4-1 close to the season and, more importantly, a 23-21 win in Tuscaloosa already in their back pocket. That tells you John Mateer and Michael Hawkins Jr. have seen this Alabama defense, handled the environment, and found enough answers to get out with a win. Now the rematch shifts to Norman, the weather is cool and clear, and the crowd will be amped for a chance to sweep the Crimson Tide.

But when you step back from the narratives and look at how these teams move the ball and finish drives, Alabama quietly holds the sharper knife. Ty Simpson and Austin Mack have led a passing game that is significantly more productive and efficient, piling up more yardage through the air and nearly doubling Oklahoma’s passing touchdown output while throwing about half the interceptions. Dre Washington and Jam Miller do not have gaudy rushing yardage, but this offense still finds the end zone at a far higher clip on similar overall yardage, which screams better execution once they cross midfield.

On the other side, Oklahoma’s calling card is that front seven. Damonic Williams, Marvin Jones Jr., R Mason Thomas, and Kendal Daniels headline a defense that has been tougher against the run than Alabama, forcing opponents to win through the air. That worked in Tuscaloosa, where the Sooners kept things in front, forced Alabama into a low-scoring grind, and stole it late. The risk for Alabama backers is that Mateer, with Jaydn Ott and Jovantae Barnes behind him and wideouts like Deion Burks, Keontez Lewis, and Jayden Gibson on the perimeter, does just enough again while the Sooners’ defense drags this into another 20-something rock fight that tilts toward the home crowd.

Still, with advanced metrics essentially grading these teams as equals overall, I want the side with the clearly better quarterback room and scoring profile. Ty Simpson and Austin Mack pushing the ball to Germie Bernard, Isaiah Horton, and Jalen Hale give Alabama a ceiling Oklahoma’s offense has not consistently shown, and if this turns into a game where one or two red-zone trips decide it, the Tide’s season-long edge in turning yards into touchdowns becomes the difference. The one way this misses is if Alabama’s protection breaks down, Oklahoma’s front dominates early downs, and we get a repeat of the first matchup’s script with the Sooners squeezing out another close one at home.

But in a near pick’em with the better passing and scoring offense, I’m backing Alabama to even the series – give me Alabama Crimson Tide ML -104.
