SMU Mustangs at Florida State Seminoles

SMU is fighting for its postseason life, but desperation doesn't always translate to execution. The Mustangs arrive in Tallahassee mired in a three-game losing streak, and their road form is a glaring red flag. Over their last five away games, SMU is 1-4 with a -4.0 average margin, and in their last two road trips, that margin plummeted to -12.0. A massive part of their recent struggle stems from a severe lack of depth. SMU's bench provides just 5.9 points per game, forcing a massive workload onto their starting five. With B.J. Edwards carrying a game-time decision tag after missing the last two contests—both losses—the Mustangs' rotation is stretched perilously thin, and they lack the secondary scoring to keep pace if their primary options have an off shooting night.

Florida State, conversely, has completely flipped their season script. After a winless start to conference play, Luke Loucks' squad has gone 9-3 since late January and returns home riding the momentum of two straight road wins. The Seminoles are getting reliable production from across their roster, with their bench chipping in nearly 23 points per night. Robert McCray V has stepped up as a reliable playmaker, and the emergence of Thomas Bassong on the glass has stabilized their frontcourt. While SMU holds the edge in season-long offensive efficiency metrics, those numbers were built earlier in the year. Right now, FSU possesses the depth and defensive structure—ranked 82nd in adjusted defensive efficiency compared to SMU's 109th—to wear down a fatigued, top-heavy SMU lineup.

Laying just a point and a half with the hotter team at home against an opponent in a late-season tailspin is the clear play. The Seminoles have the momentum, the depth, and the form to cap off their turnaround and cover this short number.
