Miami (OH) RedHawks at Ohio Bobcats

The lights are shining bright in Athens tonight as the unbeaten 30-0 Miami RedHawks put their perfect season on the line against the 15-15 Ohio Bobcats on Senior Night.

When an undefeated, nationally ranked team is laying less than two possessions against a 15-15 opponent, it usually screams trap. The market is pricing in the emotional weight of a home finale at the Convocation Center and the mounting pressure of Miami trying to close out a perfect regular season. The RedHawks have lived dangerously over the last week, surviving three straight narrow escapes, which is exactly why we are getting a discounted number here. But when you look past the situational narratives and examine the actual on-court profiles, this is a glaring mismatch.

Miami enters with a massive 15-point advantage in Adjusted Efficiency Margin and ranks fifth nationally in effective field goal percentage. The RedHawks have a balanced, highly efficient perimeter attack led by Peter Suder and Brant Byers, who both shoot 40 percent or better from beyond the arc. That spells disaster for an Ohio defense that ranks 334th in the country in three-point defense, allowing opponents to shoot 37 percent from deep. The Bobcats simply do not have the defensive personnel to run Miami's shooters off the line or string together enough stops to stay within striking distance.

We saw this exact dynamic play out just three weeks ago when Miami torched Ohio for 90 points and 1.28 points per possession. While Jackson Paveletzke and Javan Simmons give the Bobcats a formidable scoring punch, Ohio's inability to get consecutive stops puts relentless pressure on their offense to try and match scores. Even with Luke Skaljac just getting his legs back under him after an injury absence, Miami has too much offensive firepower and distribution for a Bobcats defense that just surrendered 94 points to UMass. I am backing the RedHawks to exploit the perimeter mismatch, cover the number, and head to the MAC tournament unblemished.
