The Moody Center will be rocking tonight as a desperate Texas team tries to bolster its NCAA Tournament resume against the defending champions. But situational desperation cannot fix structural mathematical flaws, and that is where this matchup breaks down for the Longhorns.

Texas features an elite offense, but their defense is a massive liability. The Longhorns rank 118th in defensive efficiency, and we just saw the fatal consequence of that flaw against Georgia. Texas shot 57.1 percent from the floor and 50 percent from three-point range in that game, yet still lost by 11 points. When a team shoots that efficiently and loses by double digits, their defensive floor is completely broken. Now they have to face a Florida offense that matched that exact 57.1 percent shooting clip in their last outing against Ole Miss.

The biggest structural mismatch on the floor belongs to the Gators' massive frontcourt. Florida enters tonight averaging 42.6 rebounds per game with a plus-15.5 average margin on the glass. Texas is pulling down just 35.3 rebounds per game and has been playing without forward Lassina Traore for three weeks. Leaving sophomore Matas Vokietaitis on an island against Rueben Chinyelu, who averages 11.8 boards, and Alex Condon practically guarantees Florida extra possessions all night.

For an underdog with a bad defense to pull an upset, they usually need to generate turnovers for easy transition points. Florida refuses to provide that lifeline. Over this seven-game winning streak, Gators guard Xaivian Lee has posted a plus-28 assist-to-turnover margin with 41 assists to just 11 giveaways. The market is keeping this spread under two possessions out of respect for the Longhorns' 12-3 home record and bubble desperation, but Florida's physical dominance on the glass and surgical execution will be too much for a leaky Texas defense to withstand.
