The Hokies rank 24th nationally in three-point defense, which is a nightmare matchup for an Irish squad that ranks 37th in three-point shooting and relies on the perimeter for 37.2% of its scoring. With Notre Dame's star playmaker Markus Burton sidelined since early December, the Irish have lost their primary engine for paint penetration, forcing them into a heavy reliance on jumpers that Virginia Tech's matchup-man system is designed to contest.

The most glaring statistical gap in this matchup is ball security. Virginia Tech is one of the most disciplined teams in the country, ranking 23rd in turnover percentage (14.2%).
