Gary's Take The market is currently giving Tulane a massive 'respect bump' for their 3-0 conference start and home-court advantage, but the underlying numbers tell a story of a major tier gap that hasn't been fully priced into this short line. We are looking at a nearly 60-spot difference in both KenPom and NET rankings. While Ron Hunter’s trapping zone and full-court press can be a nightmare for most teams, it’s essentially a non-factor against this UAB backcourt. The Blazers rank #2 in the entire country in turnover rate; they don't just protect the ball, they thrive against the exact type of chaos Tulane tries to manufacture.

Once you take away the 'easy' transition buckets that Tulane survives on, they are forced to defend in the half-court, where they've been statistically atrocious this season. Rowan Brumbaugh is a fantastic engine for the Green Wave, but he’s going to find it difficult to dictate tempo against a UAB side that plays with extreme discipline. Furthermore, UAB is an absolute force on the offensive glass. Tulane’s zone defense often leaves them out of position to box out, and with their primary rim protector Percy Daniels currently a game-time decision, I expect Daniel Rivera and the UAB frontcourt to feast on second-chance opportunities.

Jacob Meyer is playing some of the best basketball of his career right now, coming off a 29-point outburst where he showed he can create his own shot when the clock winds down. UAB is the more efficient, more disciplined, and more physical team in this matchup. Tulane has had a nice run to open AAC play, but they are running into a tactical mismatch that exposes their lack of a Plan B. I’m laying the short number with the Blazers, expecting their ball security and interior muscle to be the difference-makers in New Orleans.
