Gary's Take UConn’s offense has been operating at a different level than DePaul’s, and in a Big East setting that tends to show up over a full 40 minutes. DePaul has picked up some wins early, but when they’ve stepped up in class the cracks have shown, while UConn has been rolling through a much tougher stretch of opponents.

On the DePaul side, CJ Gunn is a real scorer on the wing and Layden Blocker gives them some playmaking, with NJ Benson finishing efficiently around the rim. They also draw a healthy number of free throws, which is usually how a big home dog hangs around. But outside of Gunn’s shot-making and some spot shooting from guys like Kaleb Banks, this offense grades out as solid, not special. UConn, on the other hand, is in a different tier offensively – their efficiency is clearly higher, they’re finishing better, and they turn it over less. Solo Ball attacking off the bounce, Alex Karaban spacing the floor as a high-efficiency stretch forward, and the tandem of Tarris Reed Jr. and Eric Reibe on the interior give the Huskies multiple reliable scoring outlets every trip.

That depth matters. UConn not only shoots it better, they also create extra possessions on the offensive glass and don’t waste many with sloppy turnovers. Over time, that kind of efficiency gap usually turns into a run – especially when you’ve got a steady point guard in Silas Demary Jr. controlling tempo and getting the ball to the right spots. DePaul’s path is to live at the line, slow things down, and hope Gunn gets hot, but sustaining that against UConn’s length and discipline is a big ask.

Even laying a big number on the road, the profile here points to UConn building a working margin by halftime and stretching it in the second half as their size, shooting, and ball security wear DePaul down. The only real way this misses is if DePaul spends the night at the stripe and sneaks in a backdoor cover late, but I’m backing the talent and efficiency edge and laying the points with UConn Huskies -14.5 -110.
