The read
Colorado gets another shot at Detroit in the Sunday finale at Comerica Park, with the Tigers chasing a sweep. I’m taking Detroit on the moneyline, and the bullpen matchup carries my decision. Detroit’s listed relief options have stronger season run-prevention numbers, while two Colorado relievers threw 31 and 34 pitches yesterday. That gives the Rockies a less comfortable combination of performance and recent workload if they need substantial relief innings again. Detroit’s closer also worked on consecutive days, so availability deserves caution on both sides. Still, Detroit has other options with lighter recent usage, giving me more confidence in its choices as the game progresses.
The strongest argument against this bet is Detroit’s starting pitcher. His 4.45 ERA looks better than Colorado’s 5.81, but his 1.41 WHIP is slightly higher than the opposing starter’s 1.38. He has also surrendered five home runs in 28⅓ innings. Colorado’s confirmed order can bat entirely left-handed against him, and his .793 OPS allowed to lefties shows that a low batting average allowed has not eliminated damage. An early Colorado lead is a credible threat to this ticket. That vulnerability keeps my confidence measured, especially at this price.
Detroit’s offense supplies the supporting argument. Its confirmed order includes four right-handed hitters against a starter allowing an .813 OPS to righties, compared with .685 to lefties. That is a relevant matchup opening, although the split remains limited and Detroit also starts five left-handed hitters. The Tigers’ offensive production in the opening games adds encouragement without making another win automatic against a different starter. At -184, I need conviction beyond a sweep narrative. My judgment is that Detroit’s relief advantage, paired with enough favorable opportunities in the batting order, outweighs the risk in its own starting pitching. I’m backing Detroit to win outright.

Props on this game
3- GARY'S PICKADAEL AMADORHITS OVER 0.5
Amador has cleared this number in 11 of his last 14 games, and he brings a .333 season average into a matchup with Jackson Jobe. Detroit’s starter has allowed a .793 OPS to left-handed hitters, while Amador’s switch-hitting gives him a favorable look from the left side. The recent hitless game keeps the price from getting completely out of hand, but his contact form and lineup spot make one hit the right side.
- GARY'S PICKZACH MCKINSTRYH+R+RBI UNDER 1.5
McKinstry has gone over this number only three times in his last 15 games and is hitting .150 this month. Batting eighth limits his opportunity, and Gabriel Hughes has held left-handed hitters to a .685 OPS. Detroit’s offense is in a good spot overall, but this is a high bar for a struggling lower-order bat, especially with Comerica suppressing extra-base power.
- THE LONG SHOTKEVIN MCGONIGLEHR OVER 0.5
McGonigle is coming off a home run against Colorado and has hit three in his last 15 games. He also owns a .289 average and .860 OPS against right-handed pitching, and Hughes has surrendered five homers in 57.1 innings. Comerica makes this a long shot for a reason, but the recent power and the matchup give McGonigle enough upside to take a swing at this price.
