The read
Tonight’s bullpen options move me toward Seattle at this price. Hogan Harris has thrown 47 pitches over three consecutive days, and Brady Basso threw 38 pitches across three innings Friday. I expect Harris to be rested and Basso to contribute little or nothing tonight. Those are workload judgments; neither is officially ruled out. They are the Athletics’ two bullpen left-handers, and Kotsay specifically used Basso against Seattle’s upcoming left-handed bats Friday. Repeating that relief plan looks difficult.
Seattle has a more usable-looking late-inning group. Gabe Speier did not pitch Friday, while Seranthony Domínguez threw 13 pitches and Andrés Muñoz threw nine. I expect those arms to be options tonight. That difference matters for this bet: Seattle needs opportunities to extend a lead and enough pitching to preserve the margin. Blewett and Medina both rested Friday, so the Athletics still have credible alternatives.
There are specific opportunities against Springs before that bullpen decision arrives. He has allowed a .937 OPS to left-handed hitters. Canzone owns an .831 OPS against lefties and a .330 average against four-seamers across his season pitch-type sample. Springs throws that pitch 43.7% of the time. Arozarena adds an .867 OPS against left-handed pitching. That gives Seattle identifiable routes to damage, although Raleigh’s .570 OPS against lefties remains a meaningful weakness in the middle of the order.
I’m backing Kirby’s home performance to be more relevant tonight than his latest road outing. His home ERA is 3.21, with a 0.92 ERA over his last three home starts. That is a judgment about which version shows up, especially after he allowed five earned runs in his last start. The Athletics have productive hitters in this lineup: McNeil is 4-for-9 this series and Gelof is 4-for-10. Their recent results make an easy Seattle pitching night a poor assumption.
Seattle’s move from -118 to -106 gives me a better price for the combination of those hitting matchups and the expected relief advantage. I judge that combination sufficient to back the run line, with modest confidence. The unresolved fact most likely to change my bet is whether Harris and Basso are available for their usual assignments. Confirmation that both can contribute normally would materially weaken the late-inning advantage carrying this decision.
The research
The dated measurements the app shows under this card — observations with their sample and source, not predictions.
STARTER FORM
George Kirby: 6.75 ERA over his last 3 starts
6.75Kirby’s 6.75 ERA over three starts comes from allowing too many hits for his command-first approach to survive. Oakland should have chances as long as he keeps failing to produce clean innings.
BATTER VS ARM
Julio Rodriguez vs Jeffrey Springs: .286
.286Julio has produced real power against Springs, not an empty .286 built on harmless singles. Even with his recent cold stretch, this familiar matchup gives him a strong chance to rediscover his timing tonight.
HEAT CHECK
Cal Raleigh: 1.249 OPS in Last 15 Days
1.249Raleigh’s 1.249 OPS is a legitimate power heater, even if the home runs make it impossible to treat as a new baseline. Over 1.5 total bases is a bet on one more damaging swing against Oakland.
STREAK
OAK games have gone OVER 5 straight
O5Oakland has played five straight overs, and the scoring has been convincing rather than marginal. Seattle brings a similar pattern into a modest total, making the over difficult to dismiss.
SEA games have gone OVER 4 straight
O4Seattle’s four-game over streak has been driven by genuine scoring bursts. With Oakland arriving on an over run of its own and the total still modest, the shared pattern has room to continue.
TEAM RECORD
Athletics 1-7 in Jeffrey Springs's last 8 starts
1-7Oakland has lost seven of Springs’s last eight starts, with no recent evidence that his day has become trustworthy. I’m fading the Athletics in Seattle.
REGRESSION
Jeffrey Springs: 6.37 ERA vs 4.92 xERA
4.92Springs’s 6.37 ERA has been worsened by unfavorable results on balls in play, so some improvement is reasonable. His WHIP and barrel rate still show real trouble, and I’m not treating him as fixed against Seattle.

Props on this game
3- GARY'S PICKGEORGE KIRBYPITCHER HITS ALLOWED OVER 4.5
Kirby has allowed at least five hits in six of his last eight starts, averaging 6.5 per start this season. Oakland has produced seven runs in three straight games and collected 28 hits over the first two games of this series. Even Kirby's strong recent home work included six hits against Philadelphia and five against Minnesota. I do not need the Athletics to solve him for runs—five hits is enough, and their current contact supports paying the heavier price.
- GARY'S PICKALIKA WILLIAMSH+R+RBI OVER 0.5
Williams has cleared this in 11 of his last 15 games and has reached the number in five of his last six. He has contributed a homer, a stolen base and three runs during this road winning streak, showing that the eighth spot has not kept him out of Oakland's scoring sequences. This market gives me three paths—a hit, run or RBI—and I like those paths against a starter who has allowed at least five hits in six of his last eight outings.
- THE LONG SHOTRANDY AROZARENAHR OVER 0.5
Arozarena is my long-shot swing against Springs. He owns an .867 OPS against left-handed pitching, has homered four times in his last 15 games and is 4-for-14 with a home run in this matchup. Springs has surrendered 33 homers this season and has allowed at least one in each of his last six starts, including three his last time out. The pitcher-friendly park is a real restraint, but the leadoff volume and favorable left-right matchup make +437 worth taking.
