The starting-pitcher gap is too large for me to pass at plus money. Keider Montero brings a 3.24 ERA and 0.99 WHIP through 139.0 innings, while Logan Allen has only 14.1 MLB innings and one start this season. Montero has allowed 4 ER in 16.2 IP over his last three starts, and his splits are nearly even—.613 OPS against left-handed batters and .583 against right-handed batters—so Cleveland cannot create an obvious platoon advantage.
Montero has also handled this lineup recently, holding Cleveland scoreless for 6.1 innings on three hits and one walk on August 13. One prior meeting is not destiny, but that performance fits his broader season profile. Allen is moving back into the rotation after working from Cleveland’s bullpen since his mid-August recall, and his 1.47 WHIP and 43.5% hard-hit rate leave Detroit a credible path to early traffic despite the limited sample.
Cleveland owns the better bullpen, and that is the primary risk. But it used six relievers yesterday, while Detroit had Thursday off, and Montero is better positioned to limit his club’s exposure to middle relief. At +112, I would rather back the established starter with rest behind him than lay -132 on a lightly tested spot starter successfully bridging the game to Cleveland’s bullpen.

With Detroit beginning a doubleheader and its bullpen carrying a 6.67 ERA over the last 10 days, I expect Montero to receive every reasonable opportunity to clear this number.

His knuckle curve has produced a .356 xwOBA, the weakest result in his arsenal. At +600, Lowe's platoon power and prior success in this matchup are enough for me to take the swing.
