The read
Milwaukee’s lineup gives Lowder repeated tests of a weakness that has persisted through his steadier recent starts. He has allowed left-handed hitters 12 homers in 268 at-bats, and Milwaukee starts six lefties. He has also surrendered a homer in each of his last six starts. Bauers’ .869 OPS against right-handed pitching fits that opportunity, while Chourio and Contreras bring recent production from the other side. The hot, homer-friendly setting makes those mistakes consequential for both starters.
Drohan has vulnerabilities, particularly against Cincinnati’s opening trio, but his four-seamer and slider give him a stronger way to stop rallies. Those pitches carry whiff rates of 31.2% and 41.6%, respectively. Myers, De La Cruz and Stewart are a serious challenge against a lefty; the matchup becomes more favorable for Drohan behind them. Stephenson and Suárez have .626 and .667 OPS figures against left-handed pitching. I expect that uneven batting order to give Drohan opportunities to contain damage even when the top reaches.
The bullpen is what makes me willing to pay for Milwaukee over the full game. Only Hall pitched Thursday, throwing 12 pitches. Megill, Uribe, Ashby and Romero all had the day without game work, leaving Milwaukee positioned to cover another shorter Drohan outing. Megill’s 2.19 ERA and Uribe’s 1.97 support the quality of that late-inning route. Cincinnati’s relievers also had Thursday off, but Milwaukee has the stronger group available to protect a lead.
Lowder’s 3.66 ERA in home starts and Cincinnati’s dangerous first three hitters keep this from being an easy favorite. My judgment is that Milwaukee’s advantages across the batting order and through the relief innings outweigh those threats enough to justify -158.
The research
The dated measurements the app shows under this card — observations with their sample and source, not predictions.
PLATOON EDGE
Brice Turang (bats L) gets a RHP from the 6th spot
.871Brice Turang gets the platoon edge against Rhett Lowder from the sixth spot. His .871 split gives Milwaukee a useful second-wave bat capable of restarting or extending rallies.
COOLING OFF
Brice Turang: .456 OPS in Last 15 Days
.456Brice Turang’s .456 OPS reflects a real two-week fade, but it has not erased his broader offensive level. Cincinnati offers a reasonable reset spot, although I want evidence of the turn before treating it as more than buy-low potential.
FIRST INNING
CIN have gone quiet in the 1st: runs in 1 of their last 10
1/10Cincinnati has scored in the first just once in its last 10, and the matchup does not offer much relief. Milwaukee is the side I trust more to land the opening punch against Lowder.
RUNNING GAME
Cincinnati Reds like to run — William Contreras (35% caught) is the wrong catcher to test
35% CSCincinnati likes to manufacture offense with its legs, but Contreras throwing out 35% of runners changes the calculation. Failed attempts would take away one of the Reds’ best paths to creating pressure.
BALLPARK
Rhett Lowder's ERA drops to 3.35 at Great American Ball Park
3.35Rhett Lowder’s 3.35 ERA at Great American Ball Park stands out because he has repeatedly delivered in a venue that rarely gives pitchers free help. His comfort at home strengthens Cincinnati’s starting-pitching edge tonight.
PARK WEATHER
95° at Great American Ball Park — the ball will carry tonight
95°FGreat American Ball Park should play even smaller in 95-degree heat. Both offenses can turn ordinary fly balls into damage, making elevated pitching especially dangerous tonight.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
Brewers are 8-3 vs Reds this season
8-3Milwaukee’s 8-3 mark against Cincinnati is strong history, but the Reds interrupted it decisively in the latest meeting. With Cincinnati at home and rested tonight, the season series is not enough to pull me toward the Brewers.
SITUATIONAL
MIL has played 10 days running — CIN rested yesterday
B2B+Milwaukee is playing for a tenth straight day while Cincinnati enters rested, creating a real freshness gap in both the lineup and bullpen. If this game stays close, I trust the Reds to have more left in the late innings.
TEAM RECORD
Reds 6-2 in Rhett Lowder's last 8 starts
6-2Cincinnati is 6-2 in Rhett Lowder’s last eight starts and has repeatedly found ways to finish his games. With the Reds rested and at home, this is one of their better setups against Milwaukee.
FANTASY PICKUPS
Jackson Chourio
.827 OPSChourio brings a .285 average and .827 OPS from the third spot against struggling Rhett Lowder, whose xERA is 5.12. Stream him confidently; he’s the best alternative to Witt and a strong play for any lineup.
Shane Drohan
3.6 xERAShane Drohan brings real strikeout appeal against CIN with a 9.0 K/9, while his 3.60 xERA sits below his 3.75 season ERA. The 1.30 WHIP is the tradeoff. Best for managers chasing strikeouts who can absorb more WHIP risk.
CUT LIST
Sal Frelick
0.637 OPSSal Frelick's .238 average and .637 OPS are cuttable, but leading off tonight keeps him more interesting than the raw production suggests. I'm giving the lineup spot one more chance to carry the profile. Hold

3- GARY'S PICKRHETT LOWDERPITCHER EARNED RUNS UNDER 3.5
Lowder has stayed below four earned runs in six of his last eight starts, including five of his last six. His season ERA is inflated by rough road work, while he owns a 3.66 ERA across eight home starts. Milwaukee’s six left-handed bats present real home-run danger, but this line gives me room for Lowder to allow three runs and still cash. His recent workload regularly reaches five or six innings without the damage getting beyond that number.
- GARY'S PICKRHETT LOWDERK'S OVER 3.5
I only need four strikeouts from Lowder, a number he has reached in five of his last eight starts. Milwaukee’s lineup has swing-and-miss opportunities throughout the middle and bottom, particularly with Bauers, Chourio, Yelich, Turang and Mitchell. Lowder’s slider supplies the put-away pitch with a 32% whiff rate and 41.3% chase rate. He has also thrown at least 90 pitches in each of his last six starts, giving him enough volume to clear a modest number.
- THE LONG SHOTBRICE TURANGHR OVER 0.5
Turang’s recent results are cold, but +750 is enough compensation for the matchup. Sixteen of his 17 home runs have come against right-handed pitching, and Lowder has allowed left-handed hitters a .801 OPS with 12 homers in 268 at-bats. Lowder has surrendered a home run in six consecutive starts, while his heavily used sinker carries a .405 xwOBA and generates very few misses. In this park and the 95-degree heat, Turang has a better chance to punish one elevated sinker than this price suggests.
