The read
Yesterday’s effective Athletics relief came with a workload that matters behind Morris tonight. He is not stretched out for a conventional start, and the Athletics just needed six bullpen innings. Roycroft threw 39 pitches, Medina 34 and Blewett 27; Harris worked both of the last two days. My judgment is that the price understates Seattle’s opportunity to add runs when another substantial relief assignment arrives.
There are specific offensive matchups behind that judgment. Morris throws his sinker 36.1% of the time, and Arozarena has a 0.605 slugging percentage against sinkers over 110 plate appearances. Raleigh brings seven homers over his last 43 at-bats. Those are credible sources of damage in this lineup, although pitch-category results cannot predict an individual matchup. Morris’s lone MLB start supplies too little evidence to build this bet around another collapse.
Gilbert also changes the assignment for the Athletics’ recently productive hitters. Bolte has one homer in 212 at-bats against right-handers, and Heim has a .518 OPS against them. Seattle then has a plausible finishing sequence: Muñoz last threw four pitches on September 1, while Domínguez threw seven and Ferrer eight on September 2. Their documented workloads support a better availability outlook than yesterday’s Athletics relief group.
The assumptions are consequential. I expect yesterday’s workloads to constrain how the Athletics use those arms; nobody has been confirmed unavailable. Alvarado and Tur offer alternatives. I also expect Seattle’s productive hitters to generate enough offense despite Rodríguez’s 11-for-61 stretch and Naylor’s 5-for-30 week. Gilbert has completed five innings in each of his last three starts, so Seattle may still need substantial relief work itself. This is a modest edge at the posted payout.
The unresolved fact most likely to change my decision is the Athletics’ named bullpen availability, particularly whether Blewett and Medina can handle their usual multiple-out assignments. Confirmation that both can work normally would weaken the relief advantage carrying this bet enough for me to reconsider.
The research

HEAT CHECK
Cal Raleigh: 1.233 OPS in Last 15 Days
1.233Cal Raleigh’s 1.233 OPS reflects a genuinely locked-in power bat, even if that pace cannot last forever. Over 1.5 total bases is appealing because one extra-base hit against Oakland clears it.
COOLING OFF
Julio Rodriguez: .421 OPS in Last 15 Days
.421Julio Rodríguez’s .421 OPS has lasted long enough to be meaningful, and this has been sustained poor production rather than a couple of empty games. Returning home against Oakland gives him a clean rebound opportunity, but the slump deserves respect.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
Mariners are 5-3 vs Athletics this season
5-3Seattle’s 5-3 record against Oakland is a modest edge, and the Athletics won the latest meeting. Home field helps the Mariners tonight, but the season series itself is not strong enough to drive the decision.
STREAK
OAK games have gone OVER 4 straight
O4Four straight Oakland games have gone over, and tonight brings the lowest bar of the run. That makes the Oakland-Seattle over especially interesting.
TEAM RECORD
Athletics 0-5 in Kade Morris's last 5 starts
0-5Oakland is 0-5 across Kade Morris’s last five starts, which is too persistent to dismiss as one rough night. Seattle has the Athletics stepping into the same losing setup again.
FANTASY PICKUPS
Logan Gilbert
3.63 xERALogan Gilbert is my favorite add of this group: a 3.42 ERA, 3.63 xERA, 9.3 K/9 and 1.04 WHIP give him the strongest overall profile heading into the OAK matchup. Add him in every league where he is available, especially if you need strikeouts without taking on much WHIP risk.
CUT LIST
Cal Raleigh
0.645 OPSThe case for cutting Raleigh is blunt: a .172 average and .645 OPS can drag down a season-long roster, even from the cleanup spot. But he’s batting fourth and in tonight’s lineup, so the role is still strong enough to justify patience. HOLD

Props on this game
3- GARY'S PICKZACK GELOFHITS OVER 0.5
I prefer the manageable price on one Gelof hit. He has hit safely in three straight games, producing five hits during that stretch, and owns a .248 average against right-handed pitching.
Gilbert is a difficult assignment, but Gelof has gone 3-for-8 against him and showed again Thursday that he can handle premium velocity by jumping a first-pitch fastball for a home run. I am treating that history as supporting evidence rather than a prediction.
With Gelof batting third and positioned for roughly four plate appearances, -136 offers enough room for one ball to find grass.
- GARY'S PICKZACK GELOFH+R+RBI OVER 0.5
Gelof has cleared this in 10 of his last 15 games, and batting third gives him every route to the number. Bolte and McNeil are reaching ahead of him, while Butler provides a chance for Gelof to score even if his own hit never comes.
Gilbert is the reason the price does not warrant stronger conviction, but Gelof has three hits in eight career at-bats against him and enters with consecutive two-hit games. Seattle's bullpen has also allowed 21 earned runs over its last seven games.
One hit, one run or one RBI gets this home.
- THE LONG SHOTRANDY AROZARENAHR OVER 0.5
This is a price play on Seattle's leadoff hitter. Arozarena has homered in four of his last 15 games and carries a .985 OPS with five total home runs over that span.
Morris relies on his sinker 36.1% of the time, while Arozarena owns a .605 slugging percentage against sinkers across 110 plate appearances. Morris has allowed a .500 batting average and .362 expected wOBA on that pitch.
His major-league sample remains far too small to assume another poor outing, and T-Mobile Park suppresses power, but Arozarena's form, pitch fit and likely plate-appearance volume make +576 worth taking.
