The read
Partly cloudy and 83°F at Nationals Park, with a light wind coming in from center. These teams just met in Miami, but the pitching matchup remains too uneven for me to pass on the Marlins.
Eury Pérez brings a 3.17 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over 127.2 innings, and his last three starts produced 18.0 innings with one earned run. Jackson Kent has allowed 11 earned runs and 11 walks in 12.1 innings across his first three MLB starts. That is a thin sample rather than a verdict on Kent, but Miami does not need to project what he eventually becomes—it gets the pitcher whose first three starts have all ended before the fifth inning was complete.
Miami's overall .698 OPS against left-handed pitching is the primary concern. The confirmed lineup provides a counterweight with six right-handed hitters and a switch-hitter, including Heriberto Hernandez at a .904 OPS against lefties, Javier Sanoja at .881 and Otto Lopez at .856. Kent has allowed an .886 OPS to right-handed batters, although that split covers only 35 at-bats.
The potential bullpen burden strengthens the Miami side. Washington's relievers have covered 22.1 innings and allowed 17 earned runs over the last five days; Miami's bullpen has worked 16.0 innings and allowed eight. Miami also had Thursday off while Washington played. The Marlins lead the season series 11-3 and are 5-0 against Washington at Nationals Park—not predictive by themselves, but consistent with the matchup advantages present tonight.
I am taking the moneyline instead of laying 1.5 runs. Washington averages 5.2 runs per game compared with Miami's 4.3, while Pérez has issued 10 walks over his last three starts and needed 100 pitches to complete five innings against Washington six days ago. Those risks leave room for a competitive game, but the starting-pitcher gap, bullpen context and rest advantage make Miami the side I trust to win it.

LActual 21
Kent has recorded 12, 11 and 14 outs in his first three MLB starts, reaching at least 78 pitches each time because 11 walks have kept his innings from moving cleanly. Miami just saw him five days ago, and its confirmed lineup gives him six right-handed hitters plus a switch-hitter.
Righties have produced an .886 OPS against Kent through his brief major-league sample. Washington has reason to seek length after a busy week for its bullpen, but Kent must finish five innings to beat this line.
His workload and command history make under 14.5 outs worth taking at plus money.

I am fading Ortiz against Pérez at a plus price. Ortiz is 2-for-22 over the last seven days and 7-for-46 over the last 15, while Pérez has held left-handed hitters to a .179 average and .558 OPS this season.
His slider, sweeper and changeup all carry strong swing-and-miss numbers, giving him several ways to attack Ortiz after establishing a fastball that averages 98.3 mph. Ortiz's second spot in the order creates extra plate-appearance risk, but Miami's available late-inning options are predominantly right-handed as well.
I make the hitless outcome more likely than the +125 price implies.
