The read
Citi Field hosts a near-even series opener Friday night, with Houston arriving from a series win in the Bronx and New York trying to answer consecutive losses. The recent results point in opposite directions, but tonight’s matchup is tighter than those finishes suggest.
Hunter Brown has the stronger last-three ERA, 3.45 versus Christian Scott’s 6.60, but Scott’s underlying control is cleaner: 111 strikeouts and 39 walks in 89.1 innings, compared with Brown’s 76 strikeouts and 43 walks in 74.1. Brown has issued 11 walks in his last 15.2 innings. Scott also owns a 3.38 ERA at Citi Field and a 2.08 ERA across his last three home starts.
Houston holds the offensive baseline advantage, producing a .736 OPS against right-handed pitching compared with New York’s .695. The specific handedness matchup narrows that gap. Scott has allowed a .658 OPS to right-handed hitters, and Houston starts six of them. Brown has allowed a .755 OPS to left-handed hitters versus .584 to right-handed hitters; the Mets counter with four left-handed hitters and switch-hitting Francisco Lindor.
The bullpen is the separator. The Mets’ current arms carry a 2.66 ERA and 0.99 WHIP, compared with 3.65 and 1.21 for Houston’s current group. Over the last 10 days, the Mets bullpen has a 3.56 ERA while Houston’s is at 5.77. New York’s listed leverage arms also went unused Thursday.
At -104, the moneyline is the right ticket. I’m backing Scott’s home profile, New York’s lineup construction against Brown, and the Mets’ stronger relief support without paying -176 for the extra run.

2Hunter BrownOVER 2.5 Pitcher Walks Pitcher Walks+118
LActual 1
Brown has issued 11 walks over his last 15.2 innings and reached at least three in five of his last eight starts. His four-seam command remains inconsistent, and New York can give him trouble with four left-handed bats plus switch-hitting Francisco Lindor. Brown is averaging more than three walks per start, so I’ll take plus money on that continuing.
Jared YoungOVER 0.5 Hits Hits-122
Not yet graded
Young has a hit in 12 of his last 15 games, is batting .300 in August and owns a .282 average with an .818 OPS against right-handed pitching. Brown has been much more vulnerable to left-handed hitters, allowing them a .755 OPS compared with .584 to righties. Batting sixth should give Young four chances in most game scripts, and this price is playable for one hit.
