The read
Target Field gets the rubber match under the afternoon sun, with Baltimore and Minnesota separated by almost nothing in the standings or the market. I’m taking the Orioles moneyline at -101.
Shane Baz is the steadier starter today, allowing four earned runs across his last three outings while completing eight innings his last time out. Minnesota can challenge him with several left-handed bats, but too much of that lineup arrives cold. Zebby Matthews, meanwhile, brings a recurring foot blister into a matchup with Baltimore’s most dangerous hitters locked in: Pete Alonso is crushing the ball, Gunnar Henderson’s contact has remained loud through uneven results, and both attack Matthews’ weaker side.
Matthews’ strong Target Field numbers are the best argument against my ticket, and Baltimore’s bullpen keeps this from being a high-confidence play. But home splits describe Matthews generally; the blister, confirmed lineup and present form answer today’s question. In a near pick’em, I’ll pay essentially even money for the better starter and the lineup more capable of punishing an early mistake.

3Gunnar HendersonOVER 0.5 Walks Walks+154
Not yet graded
I’m backing Gunnar Henderson to draw a walk at +154. Henderson has walked in nine of his last 15 games, and his recent 18% chase rate shows that he is seeing the ball well even when the batting average has lagged.
Zebby Matthews has issued at least two walks in seven of his last eight starts. Henderson leads off, giving him maximum opportunities to exploit that inconsistent command, and the plus-money price asks him to do it only once.
Zebby MatthewsUNDER 16.5 Pitcher Outs Pitcher Outs-118
WActual 15
I’m taking Zebby Matthews under 16.5 outs. He has completed six innings only twice in his last six starts, and the recurring foot blister that ended his previous outing creates another path to an early hook today.
Baltimore can make him work with Gunnar Henderson and Jackson Holliday from the left side, while Pete Alonso is punishing mistakes in the heart of the order. Matthews may pitch effectively at home, but this bet only needs Minnesota to remove him before he records the final out of the sixth.
Christian Encarnacion-StrandOVER 0.5 Home Runs Home Runs+800

One prop on the board tonight, and it's a longshot with a real case underneath it. Christian Encarnacion-Strand has gone deep in just one of his last fifteen games, but that one came last night — a 460-foot blast to center field — and his underlying contact backs up more than a single swing: two barrels on his last thirteen balls in play with average exit velocity pushing 90 mph. That's a hitter squaring the ball up right before the counting stats catch up.
The matchup helps make the case. Zebby Matthews has been homer-prone all year, especially against right-handed bats — nine home runs allowed in just 162 at-bats from that side, with a 12.3 percent barrel rate allowed that puts him among the more hittable starters Baltimore will see this series. He's also working through a foot blister that cut his last outing short, which raises the odds of a pitch left over the plate today. Warm conditions at Target Field, near 86 degrees, add carry on top of that.
I don't love the wind holding in from center, which trims a little off anything hit to the pull side, and a hitter with one homer in his last fifteen games has to be respected as cold. But the price accounts for it. At plus-800 I only need this to land once in nine or ten tries to break even, and Encarnacion-Strand's recent contact quality against a homer-prone arm gets me there.
