Braves at Reds

The Braves are loaded with lefties and switch-hitters who match up perfectly against Paddack's fastball-changeup mix, none hotter than Matt Olson, who is slashing .324 with four home runs over his last 10 games.

The strongest case against Atlanta is Cincinnati's potent offensive upside, led by a red-hot Sal Stewart (.448 last 10 games) and Elly De La Cruz, who can terrorize Braves backup catcher Chadwick Tromp on the basepaths. However, any early success the Reds find will be completely erased in the later innings due to a massive bullpen crisis. Cincinnati placed its most reliable high-leverage setup man, Graham Ashcraft, on the 60-day injured list today with a UCL sprain. With closer Emilio Pagan also sidelined, the Reds' relief unit is severely depleted, forcing Terry Francona to rely on unstable arms like Tony Santillan (5.57 ERA, 1.48 WHIP) to protect leads or keep games close.

Because Paddack has struggled to go deep into games, Cincinnati's vulnerable middle relief will have to cover multiple innings against a relentless Braves offense that is elite on the road (21-9). Meanwhile, Atlanta’s bullpen boasts a 3.10 ERA and has its premier late-inning bridge of Robert Suarez (0.77 ERA) and Raisel Iglesias (1.08 ERA) completely rested and ready. At -132, the market is offering a surprisingly cheap price on the best team in baseball because of Paddack's theoretical regression, but the fresh loss of Ashcraft completely guts Cincinnati's late-game defense. Trust the Braves to exploit this bullpen crisis and pull away late.
