The read

We have got a roof-closed clash tonight in Milwaukee as the Diamondbacks bring their surging bats into American Family Field to face a Brewers team desperate to find its power stroke. This game begins and ends with the massive discrepancy on the mound. Merrill Kelly has looked like a different pitcher since returning from his intercostal injury, and not in a good way. He is currently sporting a 9.31 ERA and a WHIP over 2.00, but the advanced metrics are even more concerning, suggesting an xERA north of 13.00. He is struggling with his command, walking over six batters per nine innings, and leaving far too many pitches in the heart of the plate.

On the other side, Chad Patrick has been the model of efficiency for the Brewers, especially at home where he has maintained a 1.29 ERA. While he is not a high-strikeout guy, he eats innings, averaging over seven frames per start. This is the ultimate "get right" spot for a Milwaukee lineup that has been stuck in a historic home run drought. Facing a right-hander like Kelly who is effectively spraying the ball and allowing a high barrel rate is exactly what this left-handed heavy Brewers order needs. With seven lefties or switch-hitters in the lineup, Milwaukee should have runners on base all night long, and they will not need the long ball to do damage if Kelly continues to hand out free passes.

The situational advantages also lean toward the home team. Milwaukee’s defense behind the plate is elite, with William Contreras virtually shutting down the run game, which will be vital against a speed-reliant Diamondbacks team. Arizona is also dealing with the fresh absence of Geraldo Perdomo at shortstop, which creates a defensive hole the Brewers can exploit. While the Diamondbacks' offense is hot, the reliability of Patrick and the severe lack of command from Kelly make the Brewers the clear side here. The market is giving us a reasonable price on a home team with a significant starting pitching edge.
