It’s a getaway day by the Bay as the Giants look to pull off an improbable sweep of the two-time defending champions under the midday sun at Oracle Park. While San Francisco has dominated the first two games of this series with exceptional pitching and timely hitting, the Dodgers are turning to their ultimate stopper in Tyler Glasnow to prevent the sweep.
The betting line is heavily shaded toward Los Angeles for a reason. Glasnow has been arguably the most dominant starter in baseball through his first month, posting an elite 0.84 WHIP and a 2.6 xERA that suggests he is actually pitching better than his 3.24 ERA indicates. The Dodgers (16-8) are a perfect 4-0 in his starts this season, and his high-strikeout profile (10.4 K/9) is the perfect antidote for a Giants (11-13) lineup that averages just 3.4 runs per game. On the other side, Logan Webb has been a workhorse for San Francisco, but his 1.40 WHIP and 5.40 ERA show he’s been playing with fire. More importantly, the Dodgers' left-handed core has historically owned Webb; Freddie Freeman is a career .347 hitter against him in 49 at-bats, and Max Muncy has tagged him for three home runs.
While the Dodgers have looked sluggish following their high-altitude series in Colorado, an offense with an MLB-best .836 OPS isn't going to stay silent for three straight days. San Francisco’s bullpen has been lights out in this series, but their primary late-inning option, Ryan Walker, has worked both games and may be limited today. Even if Shohei Ohtani rests after pitching yesterday, the Dodgers have a rookie phenom in Dalton Rushing hitting over .400 to bridge the gap. With the Padres tied for the division lead and their ace on the mound, expect Los Angeles to lean on their veteran lefties and Glasnow’s power arm to salvage the series.
